🎄 I am so excited to get started putting out Christmas decorations. How about you? Ready to spice up your holiday decor with some DIY cuteness?
This is my favorite time of the year. 🧑🏻🎄 Let’s go!
Gather the kids and let’s make salt dough Christmas ornaments – it’s fast and easy and like baking cookies, but for your home!
Here’s what you’ll need:
– 2 cups of all-purpose flour
– 1 cup of salt
– 1 cup of warm water (not too hot, not too cold – think Goldilocks, but for dough)
– your favorite acrylic Christmas paint colors
– small paint brush
Instructions
1. Mix flour and salt.
2. Gradually add water.
3. Knead until it’s smooth. Consider it a stress ball workout – double win! 😁
4. Roll out your dough – like a master pizza chef. Bonus points for tossing it in the air (if you’re feeling adventurous. No pics, it didn’t happen. Lol).
Now, let’s get artsy:
5. Roll the dough with your hands onto a smooth surface. A cutting board works.
6. Make varying thickness – large like a bread sticks and small like drinking straws.
7. Smooth out any rough areas with slightly damp fingers.
Baking
– Bake at 250°F for 2 hours. Optional: you can air dry them for 3 or 4 days.
While your peppermint stick ornaments are getting toasty, think about the memories you’re creating. It’s not just about ornaments; it’s about the joy of making them. And the bonus? Your house will smell like a Christmas wonderland.
Once they’re done baking, let them cool. Paint them with a white base paint. Once dry, (I wrapped each stick with trimmed down painters tape) paint spiral red stripes and voila! Your decor just got a whole lot sassier.
The faux straw size sticks are great added to hot chocolate bars and the larger peppermint sticks look so good mixed in with other Christmas decor on shelves or arranged in a vintage santa mug. So sassy and cute! 🧑🎄
Merry Christmas, y’all and happy fake baking! 🌟😉 Your secret is safe with me. 🤫
The kiddos will love these baking sets, too. Check them out.
