DIY Address Pillow

This is a fun and simple DIY address pillow that can be either sewn or glued.  I made my own stencils and repurposed an old pillow.

This is an easy project and the pillow looks great in a chair or on a bench on the front porch. I made a couple of pillows. The white pillow was made with canvas fabric. You could use duck fabric.

And I made another address pillow using burlap.

I made these stencils and printed them on card stock paper. It’s SO easy to do and you can make a stencil out of so many images! FUN! I cut it out with an exacto knife. You could use a straight edge razor blade.

I used a stencil sponge and acrylic paint in black.

Then I thought it might be a good idea to make it reversible. Why not? 😃  So I used the same stencil after the black paint dried. I chose red paint for the holidays.

Think about all the holidays that are red. Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July / Independence Day, all the Patriotic holidays and Christmas.  I mean, there are a bunch so why not have a reversible address below? Everybody needs one! Right?

I used an old pillow and I sewed a straight seam a 1/2 inch from the fabric edge on the top and both sides, backstitching at the beginning and end to reinforce the seam. Then I left an opening in the bottom but sewed the straight seam 3” from the corner. I made sure to backstitch at the beginning and end here too. You will appreciate the backstitching here when you start inserting the pillow.

If you use the fabric glue instead of sewing, just place a safety pin or straight pin here while you are inserting the pillow. Get fabric glue at this link.

Sew or glue the opening closed. If gluing, use clips or pins until the glue dries.

I really love that the pillow is reversible! WIN!

I love the black-and-white on the front porch right now. I like the contrast with the white wicker chairs. I think it turned out really cute. What do you think?
